Infographic: A short history of cold chain packaging
At one time an uninterrupted supply chain, much less cold chain, was unheard of. Keeping a consistent temperature for a product across thousands of miles of heat, cold, rain and whatever else was out there in the past just was not possible.
Ice was a luxury in many cases that could only be brought down from the highest peaks, and therefore reserved only for royalty or the very rich. Today you don’t have to be a king to keep your products cold.
From ice houses storing ice blocks gathered during winter or shipped in from mountain towns to today’s biodegradable containers and drain friendly gel packs, we’ve come a long way.
